Abstract

With the development of industry, heavy metal pollution has become a global problem that should be seriously considered. There are various definitions for heavy metals, but this term is mostly used in the field of environmental pollution. Phytoremediation is the use of plants to remove or eliminate hazardous pollutants from water, soil and air. The main reason for using this method is to capture pollutants and transfer them into a suitable and extractable form (plant tissue). There are two problems in phytoremediation: one is the limited biological ability of heavy metals in soil, and the other is the limited ability of most plant species to transfer heavy metals to the branches, so chemicals are used to accelerate the phytoremediation process; these compounds are used to improve the efficiency of the refinement of metal elements by plants and to increase the solubility of the metal elements. Most of these materials, such as nanoparticles (NP), are considered as materials of the new millennium. Metal-based nanomaterials have been widely studied recently. We have investigated the effect of nanoparticles on phytoremediation process in various studies and concluded that the effect of nanoparticles on phytoremediation process is promising, but still standard scale nanoparticles should be used because they have the ability to penetrate membranes. They have biological properties.
